The Finishing Touches

5 Beauty and Accessory Looks to Try for Party Season

Party season is here and you’ve got your outfit sorted but what about your hair and makeup?  What do you team your outfit with?  Is there a cute sparkly bag out there that is actually big enough to fit your essentials in?  Fear not, we’ve got you covered with these key items and looks…

  1. Try a crazy new hair colour

If you’ve always wanted pink, red or even lilac hair but lacked the courage– Christmas and New Year are the times to go all out and try something new.  You can start with a temporary spray-in colour until you test the look and see if you’d like to make the change a permanent one or not.

Superdrug has all options covered.  Pixie Lott’s hair colouring range includes wash out colour and hair chalks, and Superdrug’s own brand features wash out hairsprays in gold and silver glitter, plus a rainbow of colours.  They also have semi-permanent hair toners perfect for special occasions.

  1. Add glitter

There’s no better time to sparkle and shine than party season.  Get your glitter on with iridescent eyeshadows, nail polishes and lipsticks – just not all at once!  Glitter nail polish is a subtle and playful wear to wear it, while a glitter lip makes more of a statement.

Try Kiko Milano Water Eyeshadow, £8.90 which you can apply wet or dry.  It’s high pigment gives a dense iridescent glow to lids and cheekbones.

I also love Kiko Milano Colour Glitter Nail Lacquer, £6 as it has a very high concentration of glitter particles.  Plus the wide brush means one stroke coats the entire nail for a super quick manicure. Maybelline Colour Show Street Artist 02 White Splatter, £3.99 at Superdrug is a superb dramatic top coat while Too Faced La Crème Color Drenched Lip Cream , £18 at Debenhams is very hydrating and glides on like a gloss but without the stickiness.  I love ‘Clueless’ for a touch of playful pink frosting.

  1. Have fun with your footwear

Head straight to the party from your desk by jazzing up your work outfit with fancy footwear.  Embellished, metallic, studded and animal print shoes are all the rage with TOPSHOP, Aldo, Office and Dorothy Perkins leading the way.  I love the embroidered boots at TOPSHOP, £42 and the crazy metallic pink ones too.  This is such a great way to have fun with your look without going overboard.

  1. Ready, Steady, Glow

Glowing skin is a key beauty look this season but it’s often the hardest thing to naturally own this time of year.  We’re burned out, frequently ill and a bit down in the dumps so the only answer is to fake it!  The KIKO Milano 2016 Holiday Collection is a range of vibrant limited edition products that add that much-needed vibrancy.  The 2-IN-1 Bronzer & Highlighter blends easily for a naturally tanned look and adds sheen to your skin in seconds.

Glowing isn’t just for skin either, molten metals work for clothing too.  Stores including Pull & Bear, River Island and Miss Selfridge have a choice of metallic skirts for party season.  I love River Islands gold leather look pencil skirt, £35 and Pull & Bear’s metallic silver pleated skirt, £29.99

  1. Sparkle in sequins

You can’t escape them this time of year and love them or loathe them, you can’t deny that sequins make for perfect festive fun.  Skirts, jackets, shoes and hair accessories are all coated in tiny sparkles with Next, Miss Selfridge, Warehouse and TOPSHOP exploding with shimmer.  Accessorize also has a range of bags, earrings and scarves to introduce a little effervescence to your outfit more subtly, like with this Accessorize Frey Sequin Scarf, £19.
