It’s my first blog post and I will be bringing you the wonderful world of fashion and beauty from Churchill Square Shopping Centre. I will be reporting on the latest fashion trends straight from the catwalk to the high street, and bringing you the best beauty buys, brand reports and style news fresh from inside Brighton’s biggest shopping destination.

We all need the spring to hurry up; not only because of the cold and wet but us fashion lovers are desperate to delve into our new spring/summer wardrobes. This month I took a trip to Dorothy Perkins in Brighton, yes DP as we’ve all come to know and love it. It’s one of our longest-standing high street brands opening its doors in 1909, with supermodels Helena Christensen and Yasmin Le Bon amongst many who have fronted their campaigns.
Taking inspiration from the SS14 catwalks, Dorothy Perkins has its fingers on the pulse when it comes to fashion for the classic 25-45 age group. I sat down with Store Manager Abby Yusuf to discuss the latest fashion offerings to land in its Brighton store.

Split into two clear and concise categories, formal and casual, DP’s formal spring trend Nouveau East blends monochrome graphic prints with softer florals for the ultimate in modern femininity. Inspired by the likes of Alexander Wang, Peter Som, Preen and David Koma, who sent their models down the runway in bold structured silhouettes, strong shapes, monochrome stripes and oversized florals, you will see these trends run prominently through DP’s two pieces, jersey fit and flare dresses, fabrics and tunic prints. Add a splash of pink and a statement necklace from DP’s jewellery collection for the ultimate on-trend style combination.

Moving onto Dorothy Perkins casual trend Spring Break and we see a more relaxed approach to the spring 2014 trends. One of my favourites for its candy sweet colours, heavy cotton knits and bleached denims, Spring Break mixes ladylike pastels with standout pieces such as leather bikers, floral camisoles, jersey knits, and sleek sporty shapes as seen at Marc by Marc Jacobs. Modern and pretty, DP’s Spring Break collection is brought into the everyday with a fresh colour palette of soft apricots, greys, lilacs and coral.

Dorothy Perkins bags and shoes complement their trends. From formal clutches in this season’s must have tangerine, to tote bags a la Victoria Beckham and oversized shoulder bags, there’s a bag and shoe to match any look.

And if you’re still looking for that perfect pair of jeans, then Dorothy Perkins Eden jeggings are still their biggest-selling denim item. Selling 150 pairs a week in Brighton alone, Eden comes in a range of colours from black to dark indigo, bleached washed, berry, evergreen and many more. I’ve got my eyes on the ultra soft in bright blue, perfect teamed with pumps and a new season bomber jacket or collarless coat.
Look out for their exclusive one-off capsule pack which changes regularly. In store now is Track Lux, a sporty chic collection of easy to wear designs. Think leopard-print tees, skinny jeans and vests all in hues of green.
