If you want to save pennies, travel light or are on a budget, then a summer capsule wardrobe is for you. This means you buy only the essential pieces and ones that you can get plenty of wear out of, items that are versatile so you can mix and match and that also work with the clothes already in your wardrobe.
But where do you start?
The off the Shoulder top
This is a key trend this summer and suits anyone, young or not so young. Showing a little shoulder is a demure way to be sexy and it’s a style that looks great with jeans, skirts or shorts.
The Summer Jacket
Opt for a maxi kimono or sleeveless duster jacket to throw over your summer outfit. They’re elegant and flattering and instantly add glamour to an ordinarily plain outfit.
The 70s Addition
Update your wardrobe with one accessory by introducing the 70s trend with a fringed piece. Whether it’s shoes, a bag or a gilet – make it suede and fringed and you’ll instantly look upgraded.
The Stripy Number
Stripes are so in, if you want to be in vogue, you’ll have to find a way to rock ‘em. My personal favourite is this striped dress from Dorothy Perkins for a touch of French Riviera. The nautical look never goes out of fashion so this is current yet timeless simultaneously.
The Finishing Touches
Choose a pair of sunglasses with tortoiseshell frames for a hippy chic look, a pair of platforms in a bold colour (or tie-up flats work just fine if you don’t like heels), and a statement necklace with a tribal edge and you’re all set.
Once you have a few key pieces like these, you can team them with items you already have such as jeans, white or printed trousers and shorts.
