Topshop/Topman in Churchill Square

When I was in my teens and early 20s (them were the days), I’d shop at Topshop like it was my religion, practising daily.  Now in my mid-30s, I was convinced the store wasn’t for me.  That is, until I experienced the Personal Shopping service at the newly launched TOPSHOP TOPMAN Churchill Square, Brighton. It is the first joint Personal Shopping space in the UK; TOPMAN’s first Personal Shopping department outside of London – whoop!

Completely free, the Personal Shopping Service offers tailored appointments and style advice with several fun packages to choose from. The Big Wow for instance concentrates on finding that special outfit for a big event.  The Miracle Worker focuses on getting you standout pieces for a complete wardrobe overhaul to revamp and freshen up your look and then there’s The None of the Above, just in case you can’t see an appointment that’s right for you so Topshop will create a bespoke one to suit.

After arriving in their super plush suite lined with mirrors, marble effect flooring and glossy magazines, my Personal Shopper introduced herself and we had a brief chat about the items I was looking for.  The brief was simple, ‘some key pieces to take me through autumn and into winter with a touch of colour and sparkle thrown in’.  Within 10 minutes, she returned with a host of items that I instantly adored and talked me through each piece.

A few styles didn’t suit my shape so they immediately identified that and replaced the selection with ones that did.  I loved their honesty- delivered in an ego-boosting way.  When things didn’t fit they’d say, ‘I think we can do better’ or ‘let’s try this instead as I know this will trump that’.  I also loved how they would show me items and say, ‘this is very you’.  I was amazed in just ten minutes of meeting me that they knew this – and got it right!

After a fun session of trying things I ended up with the perfect Fall wardrobe:
•    A burgundy pleated midi dress (I’ve had my eye on this for ages but didn’t think it wold suit me)
•    A pair of black pointed-toe Chelsea boots
•    A wide brimmed 70s-style floppy hat
•    A statement necklace
•    Indigo skinny jeans
•    An oversized sparkly black tee with metallic threading
•    A tailored grey coat
•    A jumper dress.

I never would have picked the jumper dress for myself, fearing it would add bulk and make my shapely hips look huge but how wrong was I?!  It did the opposite so professional advice really is well worth it.

As for TOPSHOP TOPMAN itself, it has only been open for a matter of weeks hosting a range of exciting activity before, during and after the store opening.  Street teams drove eye catching vintage Citron vans across the city inviting customers to the launch on October 2nd while inside the store.
