What to weather in unpredictable weather

So one minute it’s raining and the next the sun is shining but don’t forget, April showers bring May flowers so do start to make the most of the spring summer fashion in-stores right now.  However, it is tough to know what to wear when the weather is so changeable.  These key pieces will see you through the downpours and take you into the warmer months…

I learned the hard way that there is no point owning an umbrella when you live on the coast. Instead, wear a hooded rain mac. This is your opportunity to be more adventurous and have a bit of fun with fashion since there are so many colourful and even metallic designs about.

My go-to coat of choice for the transcending weather is however, a classic trench.  You could opt for timeless nude or grey or update a classic by choosing one in this seasons pink.

Jeans are the easiest thing to wear in unpredictable weather since they look great rain or shine, and are so versatile.  High-waisted, oversized mom jeans had their moment but I’m pleased that close-fitting skinny jeans are back.  Go for subtle slashes just below the knee, jeans with fun patches on, cropped; stepped styles or light colours for the summeriest look.

Team your jeans with an embroidered peasant, kaftan or smock top, which you can team with shorts or a maxi skirt and thong sandals on sunnier days.  A classic button down shirt is must-have item year round, let alone for this time of year.  Opt for a shirt with a statement sleeve to bring it up to date – ruffles, fluted sleeves or ties.  Wear it open as a jacket over a summer dress for a little extra cover, knot it at the waist with a midi skirt, team it with those jeans – tucked in with a blazer.

Open toed shoes such as mules or peep toe courts are fantastic for springtime but be prepared for sudden downpours by carrying flats in your bag to change into, just make the bag a roomy tote to fit everything in and go for a beach vibe for the most on trend feel.

Finally, every transitional wardrobe should have a t-shirt dress or smock dress plus a pair of ankle boots.  The dress looks fabulous with the boots and bare legs, or team it with pumps or trainers.  Summer dresses look very cute and cool with the trainers of today.  You can also wear the dress as a tunic with leggings or skinny jeans.

Ankle boots offer a little more coverage on duller day but are still wearable on bright yet crisp days with dresses, jeans, skirts or trousers – giving you a lot of bang for your buck.
